Pregnancy can put a strain on the body as carrying a baby inside you changes the centre of gravity and women can often feel a lot of pressure in the lower back, neck, shoulders, ribcage and abdominal muscles. Massage in pregnancy can put a woman in a more relaxed state of mind to help cope with all the big changes that are going on in her life. It relieves aches and pains, supports her body during a period of psychological change and helps to prepare the body for birth. Also, the unborn baby can be affected by the stress levels experienced by its mother. Massage has a relaxing effect on the baby as the mother releases prolactin and oxytocin as result of skin stimulation.

Pregnancy massage is performed on a special pregnancy massage cushion, which allows ladies to lie on their front, or can be done in side-lying position with a support of pillows.

Pregnancy massage is safe to receive from the second trimester (12 weeks) as long as your pregnancy is normal and healthy.

   What conditions can it treat?

As women’s body goes through many changes with pregnancy, massage can help to reduce problems like:

-    Reduce anxiety and tension

-    Help boost blood and lymph circulation and relieve tiredness

-    Loosen tight muscles especially in the lower back, shoulders,

     neck, abdomen, legs and feet

-    Ease sciatic pain

-    Diminish headaches

-    Ease cramps

-    Reduce fluid retention

Postnatal Massage

Massage after birth can be a great experience and gives women the opportunity to relax and recover as many women feel bruised and sore after birth. Massage can assist in the reduction of cellulite by increasing the circulation and boosting lymphatic drainage, and also helps reduce the appearance of stretch marks.
